Why Community Gardens Matter

During this Community Garden Week it has sadly not been possible to get teams out volunteering to lend a helping hand. The great news is that from 17th May it is likely that teams of up to 30 volunteers will once again be able to volunteer together outdoors.

Community Gardening has a proven record of improving fitness and mental health and wellbeing, affably termed ‘Horticultural Therapy’. They also help fight childhood obesity, generate social inclusion and cohesion, help regional regeneration, provide ecological urbanism and promote sustainable urban drainage systems.

When restrictions lift there will be work to do in gardens across our communities, including those of our elderly. Their garden is their pride and joy and they will need your help! #community #communitygardenweek
